Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. It is based on the concept of energy flow, known as Qi (pronounced "chee"), which is believed to circulate through channels or pathways in the body called meridians.

According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), when the flow of Qi is disrupted or blocked, it can result in pain, illness, or various health problems. Acupuncture aims to restore the balance and harmony of Qi, thereby promoting health and well-being.

During an acupuncture session, a trained acupuncturist will carefully insert sterile, hair-thin needles into specific points on the body. These points are selected based on the individual's symptoms, diagnosis, and the principles of TCM. The acupuncturist may gently manipulate the needles by twirling or applying heat (using a method called moxibustion) to stimulate the flow of Qi.

The insertion of the needles is generally considered painless, although some people may experience a slight tingling or a dull ache. Once the needles are in place, the individual typically lies still and relaxes for a specified period, usually around 15 to 30 minutes, although it can vary.

Acupuncture is known to be used for a wide range of conditions, including pain management (such as headaches, back pain, and arthritis), digestive disorders, respiratory issues, allergies, insomnia, anxiety, and infertility. It is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments.

It's important to note that acupuncture should be performed by a qualified acupuncturist who has undergone appropriate training. They will take into account an individual's overall health, medical history, and specific symptoms to develop a personalized treatment plan.
